Cádiz, also known for the "Tacita de Plata" considered the oldest city in the West. It was founded by the Phoenicians, (1.100 BC) town of marine origin that made Gadir (as they called it) an important commercial colony, which would later settle Carthaginians, Romans, Visigoths and Muslims.
Cosmopolitan and open city, chosen by Columbus for his second trip to the new worlds and with the appointment as Port of the Indies after the decline of the Port of Seville consolidates the mercantile flow with the Americas. Given the presence of so many different cultures and the frenetic commercial activity of that time, the city lives a great stage of economic and cultural splendor. The intense trade and wealth would awaken the interest and the greed of pirates, making necessary the fortification of the City.
The City possesses a great historical and cultural heritage among those who meet; the old and the new Cathedral, the Santa Cueva, Puertas de Tierra, the Town Hall, the San Sebastian Castle, the Tavira Tower, the San Felipe Neri Oratory (Baroque temple that was the seat in 1812 of the Cortes de Cádiz, where I write the first Spanish constitution), the Gran Teatro Falla (testimony of a great Carnival tradition known worldwide) among many others.
Cheerful and welcoming city, it has an exquisite gastronomy.
Come and meet her, she will love you!
